Editor of Ghanaian Publisher Newspaper, Yaw Obeng Manu, has revealed that Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, will leave office in January 1, 2023.

According to him, his resignation will pave way for a major reshuffling exercise in government.

“I am picking information from reliable sources that Ken Ofori-Atta will resign on January 1, 2023. Along with his resignation will come some major reshuffling as well,” he disclosed on the Happy Morning Show with host, Samuel Eshun.

According to Yaw Obeng Manu, the capacity of Ken Ofori-Atta as a finance person has never been in doubt but he asserts his resignation in the coming days is a good sign.

To him, the finance minister is finally getting in touch in reality and advised him to be consultative in his final days in office.

He described “the battle of egos” as a to why Ghanaians have suffered under Ken Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister when he should have resigned years back.

Some minority Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) criticized the work of the finance minister and called for his dismissal.

After these calls, a censure motion was initiated to remove him from office but it failed after ruling-party lawmakers walked out before the vote.

Minority lawmakers voted in favor of Ofori-Atta’s removal in a secret ballot Thursday, but the censure motion required two-thirds of lawmakers in the 275-seat chamber to show for it to succeed.

Pursuant to Article 82(1) of the 1992 Constitution, 184 ‘Yes’ votes in support of the motion was needed to remove Mr Ofori-Atta from office
