Civil Engineer, Ing. Abdul Mahama has revealed that government owes traffic Management Contractors for the past two years.

According to Mr. Mahama, the long delay of payment by government is having a heavy toll on their operations in the country.
This follows a report made by e.tv Ghana on the dilapidated traffic light situation in the country.

“Their problem is when there are faults, or these things get damaged and their contractors are engaged to come and remedy the situation they don’t come “he mentioned.

“As we speak, some of them are owed over two years arrears in the traffic management scheme according to them not me “he said.
In an interview with told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, Mr. Mahama noted that, there are contractors ready to work but because government owes them, it becomes difficult for them go back to work, which unfortunately cause citizens lose their lives.

“A lot of people are willing to do the work but because government is owing them so much money to maintain the traffic lights for us, we don’t value the lives of the citizens who are perishing each and everyday,” the engineer stated.

He added “how can we allow a whole state to just leave everybody at his own mercy, when you close from work and get home safely you thank your God. It’s a shame”

Contractors had in the past complained that their businesses were grinding to a halt due to the government’s indebtedness to them.
Ghanaians over the years have complained bitterly over the deteriorating nature of most traffic lights in the country.
