Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has reaffirmed that his ascendancy to the prestigious role of IGP was solely attributed to his unwavering competencies and dedication to the profession. Dismissing any insinuations of favouitism, the IGP insisted that meritocracy had been the cornerstone of his career trajectory.

Appearing before the committee tasked with investigating a leaked tape plotting his removal from office on Tuesday, September 12, Dr. Akuffo Dampare articulated his commitment to his duties. He firmly attributed his current position within the Ghana police service to his academic qualifications, relentless hard work and an unshakable passion for law enforcement.

“I have not at any point in time been called aside by any individual and granted me any favor,” declared Dr. Dampare, firmly denying any external influence in his career journey.

The IGP’s appearance before the Ad-hoc committee come on the heels of accusations made by previous witnesses, which the committee deemed necessary to address. Initially, there were indications that the hearing would be held in-camera to protect national security interests, but this modality was subsequently revised.

Parts of the probe will now be conducted publicly, with issues concerning national security being reserved for in-camera sessions, as announced by Mr. Atta Akyea, who chairs the committee.
