Adani group flagship company and aviation firm, Adani Enterprises has set up Kenyan subsidiary to take over operations of Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The Indian company presently faces increased opposition from transport workers, airport staff and members of Kenya Aviation Workers Union.
According to a filing projected on August 30 by the National Stock Exchange of India in Mumbai, flagship company of Guatam Adani’s in Kenya – Airports Infrastructure PLC (AIP), will see to the modernization and enhancement of the Kenyan Airport’s services.
“AIP is incorporated to take over, operate, maintain, develop, design, construct, upgrade, modernize and manage the airports.” the filing reads

According to reports, AIP has already been issued a share capital of Ksh6.75 million at its establishment consisting of 6,750 shares as at Ksh1,000 each and is expected give to 100 percent of its share capital to Global Airports Operator – a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises.

While Adani noted that AIP has yet to commence operations or generate revenue, the establishment of a Kenyan airport subsidiary is a sign of its continued commitment to the JKIA takeover, even as domestic opposition to the deal grows.

Kenya Airports Authority workers went on strike at JKIA on Monday to oppose Adani’s proposal to take over the airport, amid ongoing concerns over job security.
