A National Communications Team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Kwame Fugah, has expressed optimism about the party’s increasing support in the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He noted the unprecedented turnout of young people at the party’s campaign events in the region, signals a significant in political dynamics ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Mr. Fugah stated that the massive crowds at rallies across the Ashanti Region underscored a growing desire for change. He highlighted the enthusiasm of the youth, attributing it to the NDC’s track record of job creation and infrastructure development. This shift, he suggested, represents the rejection of the current government’s perceived lack of effective governance and economic mismanagement.

Reflecting on the NDC’s campaign tour, which started from Ejura and extended to other parts of the region, he emphasized the organic nature of the gatherings. He described the rallies as a true reflection of the change that many in the Ashanti Region are yearning for. Key stops included Afari, where the abandoned Afari Military Hospital initiated under former President John Dramani Mahama was a focal point for discussions.

According to him, local chiefs expressed deep disappointment over the stalled project which they considered critical to the region’s economic and healthcare needs.

He pointed out the importance of the NDC’s “24-hour Economic Policy,” claiming the policy resonates strongly with the youth. He dismissed stereotypes of Ghanaian youth as lazy, arguing that their eagerness to support the NDC is driven by a desire for opportunities and meaningful engagement.

Mr. Fugah reiterated the NDC’s commitment to addressing these concerns and revitalizing abandoned projects if voted into power.
