The Minister for Information and spokesperson for the government’s transition team, Fatimatu Abubakar, has stated that no joint transition agreement exists to suspend recruitment processes or payments during the ongoing transition period.

Her remarks follow concerns raised by the President-Elect’s transition team who have called for a reversal of all appointments and payments made within the transition period.

Speaking in a radio interview in Accra, Fatimatu Abubakar clarified that the so-called “last-minute” appointments do not disrupt government operations.

“The fact is that the transition team’s work does not put an embargo on government business and does not oust the authority of the legitimate government, which ends at midnight on January 7. There was no agreement to halt recruitments or payments by the government,” she said.

She further emphasized that the roles of key government entities, such as the Finance Ministry and the Controller and Accountant-General, remain fully functional during the transition.

“The Transition Team does not replace the mandate of the Finance Minister to spend, nor does it replace the mandate of the Controller and Accountant-General to pay,” Fatimatu added, reaffirming the authority of the outgoing administration.

Addressing concerns about recent recruitment activities, she clarified that no new warrants for recruitment had been issued since the election.

“Since the election, not a single warrant has been issued for the recruitment of any persons. The Interior Ministry and the Health Ministry have already released public notices instructing nurses to use the portal to begin their recruitment processes,” she explained.

Her comments aim to debunk fears of irregularities and reinforce the legitimacy of the government’s operations during this transition period.
