Team Ghana returns to action today with renewed determination at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, buoyed by a historic opening week that has already produced a medal and a national athletics milestone.
Ghana’s medal tally currently stands at one medal after Zinabu Issah claimed a superb silver medal in the Women’s Para Shot Put T57, registering a throw of 8.65 metres to secure Team Ghana’s first podium finish of the Games.
Team Ghana Medal Tally
•🥇 Gold: 0
•🥈 Silver: 1
•🥉 Bronze: 0
•Total Medals: 1
With that performance, Ghana is currently joint 20th on the overall Commonwealth Games medal table alongside Sri Lanka.
The Games have also witnessed another landmark achievement for Ghanaian sport. Seventeen-year-old Hayford Addai produced a sensational performance in the Men’s 100m T47 Final, clocking 10.99 seconds to become the first Ghanaian T47 sprinter to officially break the 11-second barrier. Although he finished fifth, Addai shattered his previous personal best of 11.09 seconds, marking one of Ghana’s most significant para-athletics achievements in recent years and underlining his immense potential ahead of future international championships.
Today’s programme presents another opportunity for Team Ghana to add to its medal tally, with athletes competing in both weightlifting and athletics.
Weightlifting
•Abdul Salim Adjei – Men’s 110kg Final – 9:30 AM
Athletics
•Evonne Britton – Women’s 100m Heat 1 – 11:30 AM
•James Dadzie – Men’s 200m Semi-final 1 – 7:07 PM
•Joseph Paul Amoah – Men’s 200m Semi-final 2
•Mustapha Bokpin – Men’s 200m Semi-final 3
Forrester Osei finished 5th in the men’s 94kg weightlifting final
All eyes will be on Ghana’s sprint trio of James Dadzie, Joseph Paul Amoah and Mustapha Bokpin as they battle for places in the Men’s 200m final, while Abdul Salim Adjei will look to challenge for honours in the weightlifting arena.
With Zinabu Issah already delivering Ghana’s first medal and Hayford Addai rewriting the national record books, expectations remain high as Team Ghana continues its campaign in Glasgow.
The nation’s athletes have demonstrated resilience, determination and excellence, and supporters across Ghana will be hoping that today’s performances translate into more podium finishes as the Commonwealth Games gather momentum.
