Minister for Youth Development and National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare-Addo, has provided clarity on his position as both a government appointee and an elected party executive.

He emphasized that his current role in government does not conflict with his position within the NDC and reiterated that there is no legal requirement compelling him to resign from his post as National Youth Organizer.

Mr. Opare-Addo noted that among the elected officers of the NDC, he, Malik Basintale, Osman Ayariga, and Sammy Gyamfi continue to hold their respective positions while supporting the party.

According to him, the party has a robust human resource base capable of filling leadership gaps, but he stressed that he and his colleagues who currently serve in government remain supportive of the NDC’s agenda. “There are 38 of us at the party office, and the party has enough human resource to step in when needed. Even though some of us are serving in government, we are still committed to working for the party whenever necessary,” he stated.

Regarding his future plans, he stated that he would not seek re-election as National Youth Organizer when his term ends. However, he made it clear that he is prepared to step aside from his party role if requested by President John Dramani Mahama. Until then, he sees no conflict in holding both positions, adding that he is not the first national officer in such a situation.
