The Majority in Parliament has issued an apology to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta following a raid on his residence by military and police officers.

According to the Majority, an investigation they conducted revealed that the operation was led by Richard Jakpa, an official from the National Security Coordinator’s office.

Delivering a statement in Parliament, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga expressed regret over the incident, stressing that the Mahama government is committed to safeguarding the rights of all citizens. He assured that President John Dramani Mahama remains dedicated to ensuring the protection of individual rights and liberties.

Mr. Ayariga mentioned that the National Security Coordinator’s office had clarified that the raid was unintended and expressed regret over the occurrence. He confirmed that Jakpa had promised that such an incident would not happen again. The Majority Leader reiterated the commitment of the government to uphold the law and protect the rights of citizens, extending a personal apology to Ofori-Atta, and called for the matter to be resolved.

The raid took place on February 11, 2025, in Cantonments, while Ofori-Atta was abroad seeking medical care . Several individuals, including military and police officers, were involved in the operation, which occurred while some of Ofori-Atta’s family members, including his wife, were present.

On February 12, the Office of the Special Prosecutor announced that the raid was staged and named Ofori-Atta as a suspect in multiple high-profile corruption investigations. These cases involve the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML). Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Ofori-Atta wanted and urged him to return immediately for questioning, warning that legal action could be taken if he fails to comply.
