Van Vicker applauds President Mahama for remarkable cedi gains

Famous Ghanaian veteran actor Van Vicker has commended the Mahama-led administration for facilitating the fast-paced strengthening of the Ghana cedi.

Vicker acknowledged the many theories that are said to account for the sudden strength of the cedi against the dollar and urged the government to continually put efforts in whatever role it’s playing which accounts for the cedi strength. “I no no weytin you do or weytin you dey do, but I beg, dey fire dat tin oo. I like am.” Vicker said in a post on his Facebook page.

A number of variables the famous actor mentioned as responsible included the US trade wars, Low expenditure rate and fiscal discipline of the Ghana government, the legal action against the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, an influx of dollars, an inherited forex trajectory of the previous government as possible reasons for the phenomenon.

Despite the plethora of reasons possibly contributing to the cedi’s gains, he validated the progress as a step in the right direction for Ghana as it nears a single digit rate to its dollar equivalent as done by Former President John Agyekum Kufuor. “Your Excellency JM , if you can take us back to 2007 , herrrh like ego be kerker’

He noted that his applause in no way comes from a political standpoint but rather an acknowledgement of a good job done. “Call a spade a spade. Give credit to whom credit is due.” he said.

As of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Bank of Ghana pegs the official interbank rate at GHS 10.2949 to the US dollar (buying) and GHS 10.3052 (selling). This reflects a notable appreciation from earlier in the month when the rate hovered around GHS 11.85, marking a 24.1% gain within the first five months of the year.
