Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu has directed the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to conduct a nationwide audit of all uncompleted school infrastructure projects.

The move aims to assess the scope of abandoned developments and establish a clear plan for their completion.
Mr Iddrisu pledged full support to the institution, noting that several stalled projects would soon see renewed attention.

“I’m also aware of a number of uncompleted projects in the school. I’ve asked GETFund to give us an inventory of the uncompleted projects across the country, in order that we’ll have a plan to get it”.

The Minister stressed the constitutional obligation of successive governments to continue and complete ongoing projects, citing Article 35(8) of the 1992 Constitution.

“There are many uncompleted GETFund projects, some dating back to 2012 and 2014, that remain uncompleted. That counts as cost to the state and cost to the taxpayer”.

According to Mr Iddrisu, the delays in completion have led to increased financial strain on contractors due to outdated valuations and rising costs.

“Even now, when you ask the contractors to go to site, they will be struggling to bear the cost. Valuations may not even reflect contract terms and contract values,” he added.

He assured the council of his commitment to support Accra Technical University in completing key infrastructure, including one project that is already 85% complete.

“We will support you to get that,” the Minister promised.
