The Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Education, Rev. Father Kingsley Dwamena Asante, has urged proprietors and head teachers of private schools to refrain from expelling students over their inability to pay school fees and other commitments. Instead, he advised them to address these issues with their parents and guardians, as school-going children do not have jobs.

Speaking on behalf of the Education Director at the graduation ceremony of Mindfield School of Excellence in Dormaa Ahenkro, Nana Atta Yeboah Brobbey, Deputy Director of Education in charge of Finance at the Dormaa Central Education Directorate, emphasized that proprietors and head teachers of many private schools often choose to expel students when parents fail to pay school fees on time, a practice that should not be tolerated.

He advocated that head teachers should address the issue with the parents, who are responsible for paying the fees and other commitments instead. He therefore urged parents to make an effort to pay their children’s fees on time to avoid any form of embarrassment from school authorities.

Nana Atta Yeboah Brobbey added that the Dormaa Central Municipal Education Directorate has informed head teachers of the various public schools across Dormaa Ahenkro to request transfer letters from parents who decided to enroll their children in public schools after withdrawing them from private schools. This is to ensure that the said parent has settled all fees and obligations before withdrawing their child. He emphasized that any student from a private school who fails to provide the transfer letter will be denied admission into any public school in Dormaa to ensure parents do not owe private schools.

He also spoke against examination malpractices, a problem that continues to affect the quality of education in the country. On behalf of the Education Director, Mr. Atta Yeboah Brobbey urged parents to ensure their children study at home after school. He cautioned teachers and proprietors to refrain from charging any amount of money from parents ahead of external examinations in the name of providing academic assistance for the candidates during the exams. This is to ensure students study hard, sit for their exams, and are able to defend their certificates and results when necessary.
