The family of Seidu Bukari, who was fatally shot by police in the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025, is demanding an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death at James Town, Techiman.

Seidu was the younger brother of Ibrahim Baba Bukari, Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to family members, he was shot without provocation at his brother’s residence by officers during what they described as an unprovoked raid.

The police reportedly transported Seidu’s body to the morgue before officially informing the family. The delay and lack of transparency have fueled suspicions and sparked public outcry.

Speaking to reporters near the scene, family spokesperson Alhaji Issah Mahmoud Ali dismissed the police account, which claimed that Seidu was shot while attempting to scale a wall to escape arrest. He categorically denied any links between Seidu and criminal activity.

“Seidu had no criminal record and no connection to any armed robbery. The police narrative is false, and we demand an independent probe,” Alhaji Ali stated.

The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Adjei Mensah, visited the grieving family and assured them of a thorough investigation. He pledged the government’s commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.

However, a police statement issued from Accra described Seidu Bukari as a “suspected armed robber” a characterization the family strongly rejects.

The incident has triggered rising tensions in Techiman, with many residents joining the call for a transparent and impartial inquiry into what is being described by locals as an unjustified killing.
