The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has appealed to Government to take urgent steps to stabilize the continuous increase in fuel prices.

Speaking in an interview with happyghana.com, the National Communications Officer of GPRTU, Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro, lamented the frequent fluctuations in fuel prices, saying they are adversely affecting the operations of transport operators across the country.

“For some time now, fuel prices have not been stable, increasing here and there, and it is really affecting our work, we humbly call on the government to intervene and help stabilize fuel prices to ease the pressure on transport operators,” he said.

Alhaji Moro also dismissed circulating rumors and publications suggesting that the GPRTU plans to increase transport fares should fuel prices continue to rise.

“We’ve never said anywhere that we intend to increase fares. We have not set any date or percentage for such an increment, all we are asking is for government intervention to stabilize fuel prices, so Ghanaians should disregard any such rumors,” he clarified.

He further emphasized that the Union remains committed to engaging the government and other stakeholders in finding sustainable solutions to the fuel price instability.
