The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, has announced the Manhyia Palace as the official venue for this year’s GJA Media Awards.

Dwumfuor made the announcement at the media launch and inauguration of a nine-member committee tasked with vetting entries and selecting winners for the 29th edition of the awards.

He revealed that discussions with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, had reached a positive conclusion, following an earlier high-profile meeting with the President in early September.

“The GJA Awards have been held in Accra for 28 years. This year, with my team and in consultation with key stakeholders, we have decided to move the awards from Accra to Kumasi. I am excited to inform you that King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has agreed to host the event at Manhyia Palace this year,” he said.

Dwumfuor described the decision as a reflection of the GJA’s commitment to inclusivity and national representation.

“The decision to host the awards in Kumasi is not merely a change of venue; it is a symbolic statement of inclusivity. It signifies the GJA’s commitment to making our association truly national, one that is felt, seen, and celebrated in every region of Ghana.”

With Otumfuo serving as the patron of this year’s event, the GJA views his involvement as an elevation of the awards to a more prestigious level “befitting the noble profession of journalism.”

The awards form part of a lineup of activities from Friday, November 7, to Saturday, November 8, which climaxes with a grand dinner ball.
