The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has dismissed media reports suggesting that it was evicted from a property in Kuntunse after failing to pay rent and utility bills for 17 years.
In a statement addressing the circulating claims, the Authority described the reports as “misleading,” clarifying that the Kuntunse Private Vehicle Testing Station (PVTS) was not a DVLA-owned facility.
According to the DVLA, the Kuntunse centre was a privately established facility operated by a private partner, not by the Authority itself.
As such, the DVLA stated that it had no obligation to pay rent or utilities for the premises, contrary to the allegations making rounds in the media.
“The Kuntunse PVTS facility, as the name suggests, is a private facility established by a private partner. The facility was neither owned nor operated by DVLA for which its associated rent was to be paid by the Authority,” the statement emphasized.
The DVLA further clarified that the shutdown of the facility resulted solely from a decision by the private partner to cease operations, not from any eviction or failure by the Authority to honour financial obligations.
The Authority urged the public to disregard the misleading reports and assured stakeholders of its commitment to providing uninterrupted vehicle testing and licensing services across its accredited centres.
