Arise Ghana has announced plans to hit the streets to ensure the repatriation of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana to answer questions over alleged financial controversies, insisting that no individual implicated in past scandals must be allowed to evade justice.

The group made the declaration on Wednesday, January 7, during its Independent Assessment of the John Dramani Mahama Government’s First Year in Office, held at the Ghana International Press Centre.

Speaking to the media, Co-Convener of Arise Ghana, Marion Gifty Nyaaba, said the fight against corruption must move beyond rhetoric to concrete action.

She called on the Attorney-General to work through state investigative bodies, including the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), to ensure that all persons implicated in past financial controversies are properly investigated and prosecuted.

“Individuals like Ken Ofori-Atta who have been implicated in past financial controversies should not escape justice,” Ms Nyaaba said, adding that Arise Ghana would soon begin picketing to press for his return to Ghana to face the law and respond to demands from the Ghanaian public.

Ms Nyaaba acknowledged some governance reforms undertaken by the current administration, including consultative and inclusive governance, the introduction of a comprehensive code of conduct for public appointees, and renewed momentum in anti-corruption efforts.

She also cited the launch of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), which seeks to reclaim misappropriated state assets, including state lands and bungalows, as well as ongoing constitutional reform dialogues aimed at addressing systemic governance flaws.

“These steps are commendable and signal a commitment to integrity,” she noted, but cautioned that governance should be judged by outcomes rather than promises.

According to her, investigations must lead to strong prosecutions and fair convictions if public confidence in the anti-corruption agenda is to be restored.

“Justice must remain impartial and must not be influenced by political affiliation, social status or personal connections,” she stressed.

Arise Ghana said it would continue to mobilise citizens to demand accountability and ensure that the sacrifices of Ghanaians translate into a transparent and just system of governance.
