Asokwa–Ahodwo dual carriageway: displaced occupants warn against project delays or abandonment

Occupants along the Asokwa Interchange Ahodwo Roundabout stretch in Kumasi have cautioned authorities against delays or possible abandonment of the planned dual carriageway project, recalling previous road works that displaced residents and traders but were never completed.

The warning comes as affected occupants begin vacating the area in compliance with a directive issued by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to make way for construction.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, had earlier set January 4, 2026, as the deadline for all roadside occupants including traders and owners of temporary structures to remove their installations within the project corridor to allow for the smooth commencement of works.

According to the occupants, past experiences with stalled infrastructure projects have left many displaced residents without jobs or alternative livelihoods, a situation they insist must not be repeated.

They further warned that failure to complete the project as scheduled could have political repercussions, urging the government to avoid a repeat of what they described as unfulfilled promises under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“Several road projects within the Kumasi Metropolis have been abandoned, causing severe financial hardship for occupants along affected corridors. We are urging the government to ensure that contractors working on the Asokwa Interchange Ahodwo Roundabout stretch expedite the works to prevent delays.

Residents say, they do not want a repeat of abandoned projects.
