ASK Mission, a non-governmental organisation, has donated assorted food, sanitary and household items to inmates of the James Camp Prison as part of its social responsibility initiatives.

The items donated included 10 packs of soft drinks, a gallon each of liquid soap and Parazone disinfectant, two bags of maize, a box of Milo, five packs of toilet rolls, five bags of gari, six tubes of toothpaste, 30 bags of sachet water and other essential supplies. The items were officially handed over to the prison authorities.

Speaking in an interview with Happyghana.com on Monday, June 8, the Chief Executive Officer of ASK Mission, Madam Adwoa Sarfo, said the organisation is committed to supporting and empowering vulnerable groups in society through humanitarian assistance and skills training.

She noted that inmates remain an important part of society and should not be neglected because of their circumstances.

She emphasized that, the donation was intended to support the welfare of inmates and ease some of the challenges faced by the prison facility.

“We believe that being in prison does not make one an outcast. They still deserve care, support and opportunities for rehabilitation,” she stated.

Receiving the items on behalf of the James Camp Prison, Superintendent Doris Amoah Okyere expressed appreciation to ASK Mission for the generous gesture and for remembering the inmates.

She assured the organisation that the donated items would be put to good use and distributed fairly among the inmates.

Superintendent Okyere also appealed to other non-governmental organisations, corporate bodies and individuals to emulate the gesture by extending support to the prison.

She stressed that addressing the needs of inmates requires collective effort and that the prison service cannot do it alone without support from stakeholders and the wider public.
