President John Dramani Mahama has directed contractors working on the stalled new Eastern Regional Hospital project to return to site and resume construction works.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, disclosed this on Thursday, June 11, during her keynote address at the official launch of the Eastern Regional Hospital’s Centenary Celebration in Koforidua.
According to her, the President’s directive underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to quality healthcare services in the Eastern Region.
“His Excellency has given directives for the contractor to return to the site and resume work on our hospital. The centenary celebration, therefore, provides an opportunity not only to celebrate past accomplishments but also to reaffirm our resolve to build a stronger and more robust healthcare system for our nation,” she stated.
Reacting to the development, the Medical Superintendent of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Dr. Aiden Suntaa Saanwie, said management is focusing on strengthening human resource capacity to meet future demands.
He noted that adequate staffing and professional development would be crucial, particularly if the facility is upgraded into a teaching hospital upon completion.
