The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has assured Parliament that government is implementing relief and recovery measures following the devastating floods that struck parts of the country on June 29, 2026.

Presenting a statement to the House on Tuesday, June 30, the Minister said the floods affected 25 communities across 18 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region.

He added that the disaster also impacted parts of the Volta, Central and Western North regions.

Muntaka announced that President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, to release GH¢350 million from the contingency fund to support relief and recovery efforts.

He explained that GH¢200 million will be used to provide relief items to affected households, while the remaining GH¢150 million has been earmarked for flood mitigation measures in the affected communities.

The Interior Minister further stated that personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, including the 48 Engineer Regiment, will be deployed to support the government’s response and recovery operations in the affected areas.
