Civil Society Organization, SEND Ghana has implored the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to give a response to the opposition National Democratic Congress detailing the party’s achievements and failures in Government.
The NDC in a press briefing on Monday presented a detailed assessment of promises made by the ruling NPP. The presentation made by the North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that only 86 out of the 631 campaign promises made have been delivered. Per this assessment, the NDC scored the Akufo-Addo administration 14 percent on the fulfilment of its 2016 campaign promises.
Subsequently, the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in a press conference in Accra responded to the NDC by stating that the opposition party employed “intellectual dishonesty” in downplaying the achievements of the ruling NPP government.
However, Country Director for SEND Ghana, George Osei Akoto Bimpeh, in an interview on the Happy Morning Show, insisted that the NPP must give a detailed response to the NDC.
“At the moment, it is not fair to pass value judgement whether what they [NDC] are saying is true or not. I think what they have done is more of an intellectual and scientific exercise. So if someone thinks differently, that person must present his case so we analyze.
I will ask that the NPP should let us know if what the NDC has put out there is accurate or not. It doesn’t have to be just any press conference. It should be a detailed press conference like the NDC’s. As humans, we cannot do away with subjective elements so the challenge is that the NPP must make us know whether the NDC’s assessment is true or not”, he told Samuel Eshun.
He noted that such a move from the NPP will help clear all the inconsistencies as there are three different figures from NPP, NDC and IMANI Ghana.
“We have three figures from Imani, NPP and NDC. So which one is accurate? The two extreme political parties have one scoring very high and the other scoring very low. It is a bit baffling. Only one figure can be true. It throws a challenge to NPP to bring out what they have achieved”, he added.
George Akoto Bimpeh further commended the opposition NDC for embarking on this accountability exercise.
