Acting Defence Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has told Parliament that the stampede at the El‑Wak Sports Stadium during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment drive left six people dead and dozens injured.
The minister said the recruitment had been decentralised to cut crowds, but a rush at the Accra venue triggered the tragedy.
The Ministry of Defence has suspended recruitment in Accra indefinitely and set up an internal board of inquiry to determine the cause.
The ministry has sent condolences to the families of the deceased and is coordinating with medical teams and police to support the injured and investigate the incident.
Dr. Forson assured Parliament that the safety and dignity of applicants remain a priority and that measures will be taken to prevent a repeat.
