Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has advocated for the creation of a dedicated hospital for Members of Parliament (MPs) to address health issues while maintaining confidentiality.

During the inauguration of the Parliamentary Service Board for the ninth Parliament on Monday, March 17, 2025, the Effutu MP underscored the unique difficulties parliamentarians face in accessing private healthcare.

Afenyo-Markin suggested that establishing a parliamentary hospital would be a crucial step in protecting the health and privacy of lawmakers, given the heightened public scrutiny they often endure when seeking medical care.

The Minority Leader proposed the construction of a new Parliamentary chamber to enhance the security of MPs. He stressed the need for infrastructure that reflects the significance of the legislative branch of government.

“Mr. Speaker, you’ve also talked about security. Indeed, when I visited the House, the British Parliament, even within the chamber, there is enhanced security. Here in the public anybody at all can throw any thing at a Member of Parliament, and there is no security, Mr. Speaker I am therefore looking forward to enhanced security in the chamber,” he said.
