Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to put an end to what he describes as intimidation and abuse of executive power under the guise of national security operations.

His remarks follow a recent raid on the private residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Addressing the press on Thursday, March 20, Afenyo-Markin strongly condemned the actions of National Security personnel, who reportedly stormed Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge residence in Accra during the early hours of Wednesday, March 19.

The operation, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, involved approximately 20 armed men, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles.

Reports indicate that the operatives disabled the property’s CCTV system before conducting their search.

Afenyo Markin condemned the act, stating “this is not just a raid; it is an attack on the principles of democracy and the rule of law,”

“President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. Let it be said that even if there were excesses in the exercise of executive power when you had the opportunity, you changed it for good. Own that legacy in your name. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy.”

He urged President Mahama to take responsibility and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

“This is a moment for leadership, the President must act decisively to restore public confidence and uphold the dignity of former public officials.”
