A senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred Thompson, has emphasized that while the NPP faces its own challenges, it remains dedicated to delivering on its promises to enhance healthcare services and create sustainable employment opportunities across Ghana.

Mr. Thompson detailed the progress made on hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities across the country, noting that a total of 111 projects, including the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program(IPEP) clinics, have been initiated, with 47 already completed. This expansion, he emphasized, is expected to provide employment for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals as they enter the job market.

He criticized the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, questioning its record on nurse placements between 2012 and 2016. According to him, when the NPP took office, it inherited a backlog that took more than three years to clear. The current government, he stated, has worked diligently to place healthcare professionals in reputable institutions without complaint, viewing it as a necessary step in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system.

Mr. Thompson pointed out that several healthcare projects started by former President John Agyekum Kufuor had been abandoned under the NDC, with nine major projects such as the Ga East Municipal Hospital, Salaga District Hospital left incomplete. He highlighted that these projects have since been completed under the current administration, and additional facilities are in progress, with 12 more initiated by the Akufo-Addo government that are nearing completion.

He underscored the scale of the “Agenda 111” initiative, which includes the construction of 111 hospitals aimed at improving healthcare accessibility. Thompson noted that, unlike the NDC, which he claimed left projects unfinished, the NPP has prioritized continuity by completing 17 healthcare projects originally initiated under the NDC. He emphasized that each completed facility contributes to job creation in local communities.
