Antoine Semenyo wrote his name into the history books on Saturday, equalling Chelsea legend Michael Essien’s Premier League goal tally while firing Bournemouth to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fulham.
The 25-year-old needed just 53 seconds to break the deadlock at the Vitality Stadium, slotting home a clinical finish to end the Cherries’ six-game winless streak. It was his eighth league goal of the season—matching his best-ever Premier League return—and his 17th overall since arriving from Bristol City.
That strike also saw him draw level with Essien (17 goals) as the joint-fifth highest-scoring Ghanaian in Premier League history. Only four legends now stand above him: Andre Ayew (21), Jeffrey Schlupp (22), Tony Yeboah (24), and Jordan Ayew (41).
The victory lifted Bournemouth to eighth, just six points behind Aston Villa in seventh, as they continue their push for European football. Semenyo will be eager to add to his tally next weekend when the Cherries face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
