Asante Kotoko SC began their 2025/26 season in style with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bibiani GoldStars to claim the ‘Champion of Champions’ title at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
Eager to make amends for a poor showing in the recent Top 4 competition, the Porcupine Warriors started with intent. But it was GoldStars who threatened first, forcing goalkeeper Mohammed Camara into a fine save from Appiah McCarthy’s free kick, before Atta Kumi was denied by a crucial intervention from defender Shaybu Abubakar.
Kotoko slowly grew into the game, with Albert Amoah going close after his powerful header was brilliantly stopped by GoldStars’ keeper Emmanuel Kobi.
The breakthrough finally came in the 70th minute. Substitute Hamzata Musah, barely settled on the pitch, connected perfectly with a Seth Kwadwo cross to fire home the decisive strike into the bottom corner.
The victory hands Kotoko their fourth Champion of Champions trophy, adding to their triumphs in 1977, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
