The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has declared his support for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, leader and founder of the Movement for Change.

The Asante monarch expressed his support, stating that if a true grandson of his Kingdom is contesting for president, there is no reason not to support him.

Otumfuo made this proclamation during a courtesy call by Alan Kyerematen, who is also the presidential candidate of the Afrafranto Alliance, at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. This high-profile endorsement from the revered traditional leader has given Mr. Kyerematen’s campaign significant momentum as he continues his three-week Caravan Campaign Tour across the Ashanti Region in preparation for the December 7 General Election.

Alan Kyerematen’s visit to the palace served not only to seek the Asantehene’s blessing but also to formally introduce his running mate, Mr. Kwame Owusu Danso, to the royal court.

Explaining his selection of Mr. Danso, Alan Kyerematen emphasized the importance of empowering the next generation for leadership roles.

He noted that Mr. Danso’s diverse experience as a musician, footballer, lawyer, and broadcast journalist brings a dynamic combination of youthful energy and professional expertise to the campaign. According to Mr. Kyerematen, this choice reflects his dedication to grooming young leaders for national responsibility.

During the meeting, the Asantehene, along with other traditional leaders at the Manhyia Palace, lauded Mr. Kyerematen for his humility and clear vision for the future of Ghana. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II particularly praised Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP), describing it as a thorough and visionary blueprint for national development.

He encouraged Mr Kyerematen to continue sharing the GTP message across the country, urging Ghanaians to recognize and appreciate the far-reaching benefits of the proposed policies.

Otumfuo’s endorsement is particularly meaningful given Alan Kyerematen’s deep ties to Asante royalty. Hailing from Ejisu and descending from the legendary Queen Mother Yaa Asantewaa, Kyerematen’s lineage strengthens his connection to the Asante Kingdom. His late father, Alexander Atta Yaw Kyerematen, was a cultural icon who founded the National Culture Centre in Kumasi, further embedding the family’s legacy in Asante history.

With this powerful backing from the Asantehene, Alan Kyerematen’s campaign has gained fresh momentum, especially within the Ashanti Region, a crucial political stronghold. As Alan Kyerematen embarks on his 21-day tour, there is growing excitement and support, signaling that the region is ready to rally behind their “true son of the soil” as he advances toward the December elections.
