The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the fight against illegal mining, locally known as galamsey, stressing that the current efforts are backed by stronger political will than in previous years.
Addressing journalists in Parliament, Dr. Amoakohene disclosed that riverbanks, forest reserves, and roadsides across the region have been designated as “no-go zones” for illegal mining operations.
“The Ashanti Region has intensified surveillance, and our task force remains on high alert to clamp down on illegal miners,” he stated.
The Minister emphasized that the renewed campaign against galamsey is distinguished by firm political backing and consistent enforcement, which he believes will yield more sustainable results.
He also called on residents to support the initiative by taking collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment and protecting the region’s natural resources.
Dr. Amoakohene further highlighted ongoing development initiatives aimed at improving governance, enhancing infrastructure, and boosting local revenue mobilization in the Ashanti Region.
