The Cash Management team at Barclays has donated various medical equipment and consumables to the Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital in Accra

The items were purchased using proceeds from an award received by the Cash Management team and additional funds raised by the employees to support the hospital.

The donation also coincided with the bank’s Citizenship Month, during which employees are encouraged to engage in community development and volunteerism activities.

As part of the quarterly employee recognition programme, dubbed Shujaa Awards, the Cash Management team was awarded for their High Performance and business growth. Earlier this year, Barclays Ghana was recognised internationally in the 2019 Euromoney Cash Management Survey, as the overall Market Leader and Best in Service, in the country.

Speaking at the presentation, Mrs Otwiwa Offei-Akoto, Head of Transaction Banking, noted that the team was moved by the plight of the hospital and the bank’s focus on helping create a brighter future for the younger generation.

“As we transition from Barclays to Absa, we remain committed to being a Force-for-Good in our society. This is why we believe giving others an opportunity to quality life is the best way to celebrate our win. It’s also a demonstration of our value which says we have an African heartbeat” Mrs Offei-Akoto noted.

On her part, the Regional Director of Corporate Banking, Mrs Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, indicated that the bank’s rebranding to Absa has presented an opportunity to be more agile and relevant to the needs of customers and the communities in which it operates.

“For over 100 years, we have supported the development of our communities and Ghana. We will continue to build on this and help bring the possibilities of our customers and communities to life for many more years” she said.

In her response to the kind gesture shown by the Barclays team, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Margaret Neizer, thanked the Barclays Cash Management team for their thoughtfulness in providing essential medical equipment to the hospital. She further pledged the commitment of the hospital to put the items to good use while ensuring proper maintenance.

Apart from the items presented, the team also took time to interact with some children on admission and presented them with gifts.  They also took the opportunity to interact with staff of the hospital and sensitized them on the need to make informed investment and financial decisions. They stressed the need for individuals to be vigilant and cautious in their investment decisions to avoid negative experiences.
