The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured the public that it is investigating the alleged detention of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates by the headmaster of Big Six Educational Complex in Meduma, Kwabre East Municipality.

The students were reportedly locked in a classroom on Monday, June 16, and barred from sitting for the mathematics paper due to unpaid school fees and their refusal to participate in a school-organized pre-exam camp.

Speaking in an interview with Happy Kasɛebɔ, GES Public Relations Officer Daniel Fenyi confirmed that an inquiry is underway to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“For now, it is at the preliminary stage. We are investigating the issue. As it stands, we are asking questions from teachers, students, and the headmaster to understand what happened”.

He further emphasized that the reported actions of the headmaster contradict GES policies regarding BECE arrangements.

“This does not conform to Ghana Education Service’s guidelines for the Basic Education Certificate Examination,”.

Fenyi assured the public that the GES is committed to resolving the matter promptly.

“We are investigating, asking relevant questions, and inviting key individuals to understand the issue so that we can find solutions as early as possible,”he added.

Meanwhile, the two affected students, who reportedly missed their mathematics paper due to the incident, spoke to the media about their ordeal.
