A Bekwai Circuit Court has convicted two robbery suspects in connection with a violent gold robbery at Asonkore in Obuasi, sentencing them to lengthy prison terms.
In a statement released by the Ghana Police Service. Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu, who pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery on April 10, 2026, were convicted on their own pleas.
Adams received a 30-year sentence, while Ampadu was handed 25 years, with both sentences to run concurrently.
A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, pleaded not guilty to charges of aiding the crime. He has been remanded into custody and is expected to reappear before the court on April 24, 2026.
The case stems from a robbery incident on April 3, 2026, during which a gold dealer was attacked and knocked down with a tricycle before being robbed of gold and cash.
Investigations led to the arrest of the suspects, as well as the retrieval of the stolen gold and a vehicle believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the robbery.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
