A helicopter with registration number 9G-AFW made an emergency landing on Monday, August 11, at the premises of New Generation School in Nkawkaw Ampekrom, Eastern Region, due to poor weather conditions.
In an interview monitored by Happyghana.com, the pilot explained that they were on their way from Accra to Kumasi for an undisclosed project when changing weather forced them to land to avoid any potential mishap.
“The weather ahead was not favourable, so we decided to land here to ensure everyone’s safety,” the pilot said.
No injuries or damages were reported following landing, and the aircraft is expected to continue its journey once conditions improve.
Some residents and the Headmaster of the New Generation International School have commended the pilot for executing a safe landing, noting that students were playing nearby at the time, and any slight error could have led to a serious incident.
They also urged the government and aviation authorities to factor in weather conditions when authorising helicopter flights to prevent such risks in the future.
