The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has been discharged from court after completing his final cross-examination.
Wontumi had been facing charges related to alleged illegal mining activities, including assigning mineral rights without approval and facilitating unlicensed mining operations.
The court had granted Wontumi bail in the sum of GH¢15 million with three sureties, two of whom had to be justified with landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
He was also required to deposit his passport and report to investigators on the first and third Monday of every month.
Wontumi’s discharge comes after he fulfilled the conditions set by the court and completed his cross-examination.
The case, has been adjourned to 26th January, 2026
