President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the government is committed to following due process in the matter concerning the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Addressing the Council of State on Monday, July 7, he described the situation as “challenging” but confirmed that his administration had fulfilled its constitutional responsibilities.
“We have followed the legal process outlined in Article 146 of the Constitution,” he said. “At this point, we await the findings and recommendations of the committee that is investigating the matter.”
The five-member committee, led by Supreme Court Justice, Gabriel Pwamang, was established after a prima facie case was found following multiple petitions calling for the Chief Justice’s removal.
The outcome of the committee’s investigation will guide the next steps.
President Mahama emphasized that any further action would be based strictly on the committee’s conclusions.
