The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike in response to the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths.

This decision was made by the National Executive Council (NEC) of CLOGSAG during a meeting held on February 11, 2025, to address concerns about the appointment of politically exposed individuals in the Civil Service and Local Government sectors.

CLOGSAG expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of Mr. Botchway, a politically exposed individual, who assumed office on February 12, 2025. As a result, the association has resolved to initiate a nationwide strike starting Thursday, February 20, 2025.

A statement issued by the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo, explained that the association had no choice but to take this action following Mr. Botchway’s assumption of office. Members have been advised to remain at home from the strike date until further notice.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike.

“Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The Association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025,” part of the statement read.
