The Vice-President of Ghana, Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia in a COVID-19 meeting at the Jubilee House yesterday, made known that the current administration is better at handling crisis as compared to the former Mahama administration.

Supporting his statement, he noted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) performed poorly in managing the power outages in the country. On the contrary, the Akufo-Addo led administration reduced the burden of Ghanaians during Coronavirus by reducing electricity prices.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has however reacted to the remarks by the Vice President by stating that his comparison is ‘absurd’ and ‘nonsensical’.

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show (HMS), he noted that the comparison was not honest.

“Don’t you think comparing dumsor and COVID-19 is the height of incompetence and dishonesty? How many months does it take to build power plant? Between 18-24 months. How many months has Coronavirus been in the country? How do you compare attempts to stop dumsor to Coronavirus?”, he questioned.

He opinionated that the best comparison was Coronavirus fight versus Ebola virus fight. He furthered that on such a comparison basis, former President Mahama proved his superiority in managing crisis.

“Coronavirus is a pandemic. Ebola was also a pandemic. Ghana was the center for the fight against the spread of Ebola in Africa. The whole world and particularly the World Health Organization (WHO) set their center in Ghana for the fight. Ghana did not record one case of Ebola virus. It is strategic. I say that John Dramani Mahama was a strategic leader. He offered his country as a center for the fight against Ebola”, he said.

Commenting on the current government’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, he said, “the evidence shows that you don’t lift a lockdown when your curve is still going up. Since the lifting of the lockdown, the number of deaths have tripled. Nana Addo’s lifting of the lockdown is motivated by politics and not by protecting the lives of the people”.
Ghana has recorded a total of 2,719 with 294 recoveries and 18 deaths.
