The High Court has granted a mandamus application for the Tema Central constituency, instructing the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of results from two outstanding polling stations.

This decision follows a request made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which also included constituencies such as Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.

The court’s ruling comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) objection to the case was dismissed. The NDC had challenged the court’s jurisdiction to hear the application.

Leading the NPP’s legal team, Gary Nimako argued that the EC must be compelled to finish the collation process for the affected constituencies. He stated that the EC failed to complete the task between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

Initially, Ebi Bright of the NDC was declared winner of the Tema Central seat, but after re-collation by the EC, Charles Forson of the NPP was declared winner. The EC had cited threats to its staff in the constituency as the reason for the delay in the process.

Furthermore, the court ordered the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, to provide sufficient security to ensure that the collation process is completed smoothly.
