A group of lawyers has filed a petition against the Ghana Police Service on the alleged mishandling of democracy hub protesters at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

According to the petitioners, the police has violated Article 13 of the 1992 Constitution. According to the group the police has undermined human dignity by perpetrating cruel and inhuman treatment contrary to Article 15(2) of the 1992 constitution, by denying protesters food and water.

They have requested that CHRAJ commence an immediate investigation into the police’s violation of the protesters’ rights, while calling for an investigation into their unlawful arrest and detention.

The petition was signed by a representative of the group, Lawyer Timothy Selikem Donkor.

The petitioners called on the commission to take immediate legal action to ensure that the violations cease and the police officers are dealt with.
