Doctor John Sedofia, a licensed Counseling Psychologist, has given some tips which can help people to identify someone who is suicidal.

In an interview with host, Nana Yaw Odame on the Men’s Lounge show which airs on eTV Ghana, he educated on these very important tips.

“One of the things that can tell us that someone is conceiving suicide ideas is when they begin to say goodbye to people. They say it in a way that suggests that they’re going to leave you and go somewhere where they won’t return in a long time”, he shared.

Another signal, he said, is people giving out their valuables in an unusual way; however, he clarified that this does not mean that when one gives out gifts to people, then they are considering suicide.

“When people are giving out their valuables specifically in an unusual way, it could be that they are considering suicide. For them, the world has come to an end and they’re planning to take their own lives so they want to give out their belongings”, he explained.

Again, he mentioned unusual loneliness. According to the doctor, people who feel suicidal usually feel lonely even in the midst of people and they like to isolate themselves.

Doctor Sedofia noted that once one notices these suicidal signs in a person, it is very important to get help for them or get them to seek help ASAP because men especially, tend to go through with such thoughts since they barely open up about their problems like women do.
