Member of Parliament for Dormaa West in the Bono Region, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, has announced that the District Assembly will soon begin arresting underage boys who abandon education to operate Motor King and Pragya tricycles.
He explained that the move is part of measures by the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament to discourage young people under 20 from engaging in risky street operations. Instead, he urged parents and guardians to guide their children and enroll them in the Free Apprenticeship Programme to secure their future.
According to the MP, apart from tailoring and hairdressing, new apprenticeship modules in tiling, masonry, and other construction trades are now available to give the youth employable skills. He stressed that the police must enforce this directive to serve as a deterrent.
Meanwhile, the Dormaa West YEA Director, Dong-Ara James, revealed the district has already enrolled 50 apprentices under 10 master craftsmen. He advised the apprentices to remain disciplined, punctual, and committed in order to acquire the needed skills for their future development.
