The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s account of his concession in the December elections.

Dr. Bawumia previously claimed he conceded to avoid escalating tensions in the country, despite resistance from his campaign team. However, Dr. Omane Boamah dismissed this assertion, arguing that the concession could have been made much earlier.

In a Facebook post on December 27, Dr. Omane Boamah outlined his objections, revealing that by election night, the NDC had tallied results from over 37,000 polling stations, indicating that Dr. Bawumia was behind with 41.21% of the vote.

He questioned why Dr. Bawumia did not concede the next day, asserting that the results were clear to both parties. Dr. Omane Boamah attributed part of the delay to inefficiencies in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s collation system, which he claimed was less effective than the NDC’s.

“With over 37,000 presidential results from polling stations collated by our National Elections and IT Directorate ‘way’ before 10pm on election night, Bawumia was at a paltry 41.21%

Why will he not concede the following day?

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia actually delayed!

Because he could have conceded that night IF AND ONLY IF the NPP Collation system was as fast as ours,” he wrote.
