Residents of Ekumfi Abontsen in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region have been living in total darkness for over two weeks following the theft of their electricity transformer by armed robbers.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m., leaving the entire community without power.
Speaking to Happy Kaseɛbɔ, residents expressed deep frustration over the situation, which has disrupted education, businesses, and daily life.
Students are unable to study at night, and women who operate cold stores are facing severe losses due to spoilage. Local drinking spots and other small businesses that rely on electricity have also been forced to shut down.
The community is calling on the Central Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, and the District Chief Executive to intervene urgently. They are also appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to direct the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Cape Coast office to restore power to the area.
