The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Francis Osei Nsiah, has assured registered voters who have misplaced or lost their voter ID cards that they can still cast their votes in the December 7 elections.

In a media interview, Mr. Nsiah emphasized that losing a voters ID card does not disqualify a registered voter from participating in an election. He explained that affected voters can visit their polling stations and provide their names to polling agents, who will verify their registration details using the voters’ register.

He noted that once the name is confirmed, the individual will undergo verification using the Biometric Verification Device (BVD). The device will emit a ‘verified’ signal to confirm their identity as registered voters, after which they will be allowed to vote.

Mr. Nsiah drew an analogy likening the process to visiting a hospital without a hospital card. He noted that just as a hospital can retrieve a patient’s details through its system, the EC can verify a voter’s details without the voter ID card, provided the individual is registered.

He encouraged all eligible Ghanaians to participate in this year’s elections, describing it as a civic duty and a responsibility of every patriotic citizen.
