Election 2024: NPP warns foreigners against participating in Ghana's elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong warning to foreigners who have been lured into participating in the December 7 general elections, emphasizing that the party will resist any attempts to allow non-Ghanaians to vote.

During a press briefing titled ‘The Bawumia Campaign No. 1’ on Friday, December 6, the Communications Director for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye highlighted concerns as the nation prepares for elections on Saturday, December 7. He promised that the campaign team would engage with the media periodically to address emerging issues.

Miracles Aboagye revealed that on December 5, 2024, Ghana Immigration Service personnel stationed at an unapproved route in Hevi, located in the Akatsi-North district, intercepted three booklets containing 1,000 ballot papers each. The suspect in possession of the booklets was identified as Abraham Ahiabu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Akatsi-North Secretary. Upon interrogation, Ahiabu claimed the ballot papers were dummy materials intended for voter education in Vodome, Togo. However, Aboagye noted that Ahiabu later admitted to having an additional 20,000 dummy ballot papers.

Miracles Aboagye questioned the NDC’s motives, asking why voter education would be conducted in Togo just three days before Ghana’s election and why a party secretary would be in possession of such materials.

He reiterated that the NPP would do everything possible to prevent Togolese nationals or any other foreigners from neighboring countries from voting in Ghana’s elections. He emphasized that the electoral process is exclusively for Ghanaians and warned foreigners who were persuaded to register and obtain voter ID cards that they would not be allowed to cast their votes.

Aboagye assured Ghanaians and NPP supporters that the party is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the election and maintaining peace in the country.
