Fast-rising Ghanaian defender Kingsley Schindler grabs 12th goal for Holstein Kiel in playoffs defeat against Wolfsburg

German-born Ghanaian defender Kinglsey Schindler grabbed his twelfth goal of the season for Holstein Kiel in their 4-1 aggregate defeat against VfL Wolfsburg in the German relegation final Bundesliga playoffs.
Schindler has been a stalwart at the back for the Storks in the Bundesliga 2, scoring 11 goals as they secured a playoff berth after finishing 3rd on the standings.
The 24-year-old continued his impressive form for the side in the playoff first leg against Wolfsburg by grabbing an equalizer in the 34th minute after Divock Origi had given the Bundesliga side the lead in the 13th minute.
Wolfsburg went on to claim a 3-1 victory following goals from Josip Brekalo and Younis Malli.
Schindler was unable to repeat his exploits in the second leg of the playoff as Kiel lost 1-0 courtesy Robin Knoche’s 75th minute strike as Wolfsburg won the tie 4-1 on aggregate.
The defender’s scintillating display for Kiel has generated interest from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen and English Premier League outfit Huddersfield.
His performances have not only opened up the possibility of a transfer to a bigger club but have gained the attention of Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, however he was not included in the latest 21-man squad for the upcoming double header friendlies against Japan and Iceland.

Able to play across the right side of the pitch, the pacy and versatile Schindler qualifies to represent West Africa powerhouse through his Ghanaian parents.

His ability to operate as a wing-back, right midfielder or further forward where he played for much of the campaign will make the Hamburg-born player an attractive option to Appiah.
