The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has instructed Chief Directors and audit heads across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to significantly reduce audit infractions recorded in the Auditor-General’s Report by next year.
The directive was announced in a statement shared on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Finance on Monday, December 8.
Speaking at a high-level meeting to strategize on implementing recommendations from the 2024 Audit Report, Dr. Forson expressed strong concern over the recurring waste, financial irregularities and inefficiencies that continue to cost the nation millions of cedis annually.
He cautioned that persistent infractions tarnish Ghana’s governance reputation and threaten the peace, stability and investor confidence the country has been working to rebuild.
“We cannot continue to lose scarce national resources through infractions that are completely avoidable. Ghana deserves better,” he emphasized.
Dr. Forson also reminded officials that specialised courts have been established to prosecute violations of financial management laws, an indication of government’s renewed commitment to accountability.
“This is a new chapter. Accountability will no longer be optional,” he stressed, adding that maintaining discipline in public financial management is not only a statutory obligation but a duty we owe to every Ghanaian.
The minister urged MDAs to adopt stronger internal controls, implement corrective actions promptly, and prioritise transparency to prevent the recurrence of audit breaches in subsequent reports.
The government has assured its commitment to strengthening financial governance and ensuring that public funds are used efficiently for national development.
