The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has indicated that, eventually a first degree will be a minimum requirement for teaching at any level of the education system.

Speaking at a press conference held today, he disclosed that, “At the start of the 2018/19 academic year, all Colleges of Education were upgraded to University Colleges, with the introduction of a 4-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Degree”.

The aim of this reform was to upgrade capacity and improve upon the quality of teacher training to position teachers in responding to educational needs of the country.

“Government’s reforms in teacher education form part of a wider scope of reforms to ensure that our education delivery system meets the needs of a modern 21st century economy that produces skilled and competitive citizens to power its industrialization”.

He further promised that, the government will continually invest in education because it is crucial to our needs as a country.
