Former GJA President Dr. Affail Monney Highlights Importance of Editorial Control in Journalism

Dr. Affail Monney, former President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has emphasized the significance of editorial control in journalism during the launch of Happy Kaseɛbɔ on Happy 98.9FM’s Morning Show with Kwadwo Sefa-Dankwah.

“As journalists, we produce editorially controlled content, as opposed to socially determined or controlled content,” Dr. Monney stressed. This distinction is crucial, as it ensures our audience receives reliable and trustworthy information, free from external influences.

Dr. Monney’s remark underscores the importance of maintaining editorial integrity in the face of increasing external pressures on media outlets.He made this known during the Launch of Happy Kaseɛbɔ, in a recent interview with Kwadwo Sefah Danquah on Happy98.9FM’s Happy Morning Show.

Happy Kaseɛbɔ, of a new program on Happy 98.9FM dedicated to in-depth news analysis and discussion.Happy Kaseɛbɔ will also focus on delivering fresh perspectives on in-depth news stories from Ghana and Africa. Featuring a dynamic format including live broadcasts, and special segments like reporter’s notebooks and quirky stories.

A segment called “Nsem sisi” will focus on delivering bizzare stories to listeners.He maintained that news is serious business and there is the need for journalists to uphold the principles of ethical reporting hence resist attempts to compromise their independence
